Indoor geofencing and visitor tracking with RTLS
Established in 1961 to meet the needs of the Turkish industry for electric motors, GAMAK is the first company to produce domestic electric motors. Adopting a domestic production approach, and meeting needs such as cost and spare parts internally, GAMAK has become a pioneer in the sector and has been operating for over 60 years. With a massive facility spanning 330,000 square meters and employing over 1,000 people, GAMAK leads the Turkish industry and is a leading manufacturer providing electric motors worldwide.
Objective:
This project aims to monitor visitors' movements, entries into buildings, warehouses, storage areas and logistic zones, and enhance security measures in advance of potential emergencies.
Expected Outputs:
- Our system allows real-time tracking of all visitors' locations and their Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) statuses on a digital map.
- In case of a disaster, fire, or accident on the premises, our system instantly detects visitors' exact locations.
- If visitors enter areas of the facility requiring privacy, such as R&D, warehouses, or laboratories, our system immediately notifies the security team.
- We have transformed the visitor registration system into a user-friendly web-based structure that is accessible to relevant individuals for real-time access and report generation.
Key Challenges:
- Large facility grounds
- Multi-story buildings
- Metal-intensive production areas
- Online visitor registration form
Solution:
The proposed solution involves launching a service application that has been developed using web-based and .NET Core languages. The application comprises a visitor registration form and a facility map, which allows for real-time tracking of visitors' locations and statuses. In addition, a Real-Time Location System (RTLS) technology has been implemented that operates on various frequencies suitable for the characteristics of production areas. This includes wide coverage and metal density. An emergency alert system with visual and auditory signals has also been deployed to cater for emergency situations.
Gains:
- The facility successfully tracked the real-time location of visitors on a digital map and instantly notified relevant personnel when visitors were detected outside the designated work area.
- An online web-based application was implemented to maintain records of facility entry and exit, which can be accessed instantly by relevant personnel. The system also automatically backs up records.
- In case of potential accidents, an automatic alarm message is generated using the emergency button on RF active tags carried by visitors. The security team is alerted for immediate assistance.
- The security unit has instant access to information such as the type of alarm, visitor details, alarm time, and visitor location during and after the alarm, enabling swift intervention when needed.
